Southeastern Minnesota Building and Construction Trades Council (SEMNBCT) provides leadership to union members, promotes and supports the development of advanced knowledge by skilled workers, and offers guidance and support to owners and signatory contractors.
Below are a list of the many different trade opportunities within southern Minnesota. With Destination Medical Center coming to the area of Rochester, Minnesota there has been a push for infrastructure which also means an increase in hiring trade workers. Their work is among the most specialized and is in constant demand. Having a job in the trades offers good income and worldwide opportunities. There are opportunities waiting for you when you graduate from high school in good paying careers. Best of all these careers are open to you eve if you do not go to college. Painters-Tapers-GlaziersThe International Union of Painters and Allied Trades represents the tapers, glaziers, wall coverers, flooring installers, convention and trade show decorators, glassworkers, sign & display workers, asbestos workers/hazmat technicians, and drywall finish.
Sprinkler FittersSprinkler Fitters are pipe fitter specialists who have been schooled and trained in the installation of fire protection systems.
LaborersJobs of a laborer include asphalt shoveling, bracer, bridge maintenance workers, building attendant, caulker, delivery worker, equipment worker, jack hammer operator, lansing burners, signal man, pipe setter, and more.
CarpentersThese are some of the first workers on the job site, and some of last to leave. They assist in site preparation, framing, hanging of exterior and interior walls, countertops, trim, locks, and hardware.
BoilermakersRepresent individuals involved in the boiler construction or repair trade, as well as iron ship builders, blacksmiths, forgers and helpers.

Operating EngineersThe international Union of Operating Engineers operates equipment such as tower cranes, dozers, loaders, rollers, asphalt pavers, motor graders &mechanics. These members work on building construction sites, highways, bridges, and pipelines.
Roofers & WaterproofersWorkers install all types of roofing and waterproofing, air barrier and dam proofing to prevent the intrusion or migration of moisture on buildings.
Sheet Metal WorkersSheet metal workers fabricate and install ducts that are used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. They install a variety of different metals such as siding, metal decks, gutters, flashing and dust collecting systems.
Heat & Frost InsulatorsHeat and frost insulators are trained in a variety of construction trades including mechanical insulation, fire stopping, asbestos and lead mitigation or abatement, sound attenuation and specialty fabrications required in custom mechanical insulation installations.

BricklayersThe Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers include the crafts of bricklayer, stone mason, tile, layer, marble mason, terrazzo worker, block layer, tile finisher, pointer, cleaner and caulker, and precast mason.
ElectriciansElectricians install and maintain all of the various types of electrical systems found in residential, commercial and industrial facilities. Included in this job are the wiring and installation of lighting, receptacles, motors, heating equipment and control systems, fire alarm systems, wiring of wind towers, streetlights and solar photovoltaic systems.
Cement MasonsMasons set up, rod off, and finish or repair concrete on construction sites, highways, bridges, and sidewalks.
Elevator ConstructorsElevator constructors construct, modernize, repair and maintain elevators, escalators and moving walkways.

IronworkersThe international Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers includes the professions of structural steel erection, installation of reinforcing steel (rebar), bridge building, architectural and ornamental iron installation, and more.
Plumbers & PipefittersPlumbers and pipe fitters install and service fire sprinkler systems, perform marine pipefitting, gas fitting, pip fabrication and assembly, lead burning, air and water balance, pneumatic and electric control work, and service repair. These jobs can either be commercial or residential opportunities.
MillwrightsMillwright workers are trained in the use of tools, equipment and materials that help them assemble, erect, install and maintain all types of industrial machinery. This includes compressors, pumps, conveyors, monorails, extruders, gas and steam turbines, and mining equipment.
TeamstersDedicated to securing a higher standard of living for workers. Assures workers' voices are being heard in the workplace and political process. They negotiate and enforce contracts with employers, assuring workers are treated with dignity, justice, and respect.
